Type
Choose the barcode type(s) to be recognized using the check boxes
For optimal performance only select the barcode types expected on the documents being processed
1-D barcodes
Code 11, Code 39, Code 39 Extended, Code 93, Code 128, 2of5 Interleaved, Codabar, Patch Code, Pharmacode, EAN 8, EAN 13, UPC A, UPC E, Add 2, Add 5
2-D barcodes
PDF417, Data Matrix, QR Code, Micro QR Code
Postal barcodes
PostNet, Planet, RM4SCC, AustraliaPost, IntelligentMail
Error check
Checking this option will indicate that error checking should be performed on the barcode.
The barcode type selected MUST be capable of supporting error check digits
Allow missing start/stop markers (e.g. 3 of 9)
3 of 9 barcodes use start and stop markers (an asterisk).
This option enables barcodes WITHOUT the start and stop markers to be recognized.
Use with caution.
Barcodes to read
Use the spinner or enter the number of barcodes expected to be read on a page
Direction
Use the four direction boxes to indicate the barcode direction required. Tick all applicable.
Positioning on page
Use the nine sectors and click to select the zones where barcodes are recognised. A check mark will appear for each zone selected.
Inclusion regex pattern match
Only include barcodes based on a pattern match.
Enter a Regex (regular expression) to indicate that only barcodes that match the pattern will be recognised
Regex Capture
Capture barcodes into ScanToPDF variables to use in file naming and other scenarios.
Enter a Regex (regular expression) to capture barcodes that match the regex into ScanToPDF variables
Description
Enter a description of the settings. Useful when used in conjunction with the multi-pass feature.
Enabled
Use the on / off toggle to enable and disable barcode recognition.
Multi-Pass Configuration
Multi-pass enables additional settings to be used to enhance barcode recognition including advanced image processing for varying and challenging recognition circumstances, such as inferior image quality. The advanced settings are accessed via the vertical Advanced tab on the right hand side
Click the button to open the multi-pass tab

Image dilate
A fundamental morphological operation in image processing that expands or thickens the foreground regions of an image helping recognition of some barcodes.
Image Despeckle
A noise-reduction technique used to remove small, unwanted spots, dust, scratches, or granular “speckle noise” from an image while preserving the sharp edges and vital details
Image sharpen
Image sharpening works by increasing the edge contrast of an object, making details look much more pronounced and clear
Image erode
The opposite to Image Dilation. A fundamental morphological operation used in computer vision to shrink or thin foreground objects
Granularity (in pixels)
A value of 1 means scanning each row or column of pixels in the image; a value of 2 means scanning every second row or column, and so on. Increasing the value of this parameter can result in faster image processing, but increases the likelihood of not detecting narrow or poorly formed barcodes. Decreasing the value of this parameter can have the opposite effect: slower image processing, but better barcode detection.
Quiet zone size (Normal, Large, Small or Extra small)
All barcodes need some empty white space around them, known as the quiet zone, to enable them to be more easily isolated when recognition is performed. Without an adequate quiet zone, a barcode reader will try to scan adjacent packaging text, logos, or lines as part of the code itself. Use this setting if the quiet zone is not correctly adhered to.
Image Colour Threshold Settings (Automatic, Adaptive, Fixed & Multiple)
Change the colour threshold to improve recognition of barcodes contained in colour images. Automatic and Multiple are the most common used threshold settings for colour images.
Recognition timeout (in seconds)
Set a value after which recognition will be cancelled
On time-out proceed with
Choose the action to take after a recognition time-out.
Proceed – continue the process without informing the user
Display an error – show an error message to the user
Execute script for
Choose a value from the drop down box
Every page with a barcode
Every page without a barcode
Every page
Action Script
For example the script can be used (in conjunction with the Create PDF Bookmarks plugin) to add bookmarks into a PDF document using barcodes that match a regular expression (regex)
{SetBookmarkForCurrentPageIf(Regex.IsMatch(GetBarcodeText(),”SDSAP”),”\06Appeal”,”Appeal”,true)}
create a bookmark called “Appeal” when a barcode with the value “SDSAP” was recognized.
Auto-orientation on barcoded page
Set the slider to on / off to enable / disable orientation of pages based upon the orientation of the barcodes on the page
Auto-orientation of subsequent pages
Check this option to auto-orientate subsequent pages.
Find a barcode then auto-rotate using that barcode’s orientation ALL the pages from the one the barcode is on until the end of the document
Type
Check the barcode types that will trigger auto-orientation
Regular expression (Regex)
Enter a regular expression (regex) that when matched will trigger auto-orientation
Repeater on/off slider
Use the slider to set the repeater function on or off
Repeats the barcode recognised on a page onto a subsequent page (or pages)
Maximum number of repeats
Use the spinner to set the maximum number of times to perform the repeat function
