Image Capture using TWAIN scanners connected to the software via a TWAIN driver, either locally or via a network, scans are initiated by the ScanToPDF software
Image Capture from files within local or network folders. From network scanners or MFP (multi-function peripherals) (Print/Copy/Scan). Scans are initiated from outside of the ScanToPDF software
Introduction To Image Capture Using TWAIN
- ScanToPDF communicates with a TWAIN compatible scanner using a piece of software called a TWAIN driver
- TWAIN drivers are written, supplied and provided by the scanner manufacturer
- These basic “how to” instructions are intended to help you get the ScanToPDF software working with your scanner capture source
- Please refer to your TWAIN documentation or your scanner providers support for additional help & advice
- Please note: We strongly advise customers NOT to use the Microsoft WIA driver for production scanning
How To Get Started Using A TWAIN Scanner
- Check your scanner documentation for details about how to obtain your TWAIN driver
- Install the TWAIN driver software that came with your scanner in accordance with the instructions
- Attach the Scanner to your PC and switch it on
- IMPORTANT THE STEPS BELOW MUST BE COMPLETED
- Start ScanToPDF
- Click the File menu
- Click Select capture source
- A new window will open with a list of TWAIN sources (left hand side) and also a list of WIA sources (right hand side) – always use the TWAIN source for production scanning
- Select your scanner from the TWAIN list by clicking it once so it is highlighted
- Click the OK button on the bottom right of the window, the window will then close
- Test the scanner by performing some scans!
Adjusting scan settings in the TWAIN driver
- Before scanning, on the ScanToPDF toolbar, click the Show UI icon (to the right of the Gear icon) so it has a green tick
- Click the Scan button on the toolbar to initiate a scan
- A window (presented by the scanner) will open and that window should contain all the scan settings
- Adjust the scan settings (simplex/duplex, page size, resolution, color depth etc.) as required
- Refer to the scanner documentation for more details about the scanner settings
Adjusting TWAIN scan settings in the ScanToPDF software
- NOTE : Using the TWAIN driver to define and retain scan settings is preferred if possible
- Make sure the TWAIN driver for the scanner is installed as explained above
- Click File >> Select capture source and click the Advanced button above the source list on the left hand side
- Set the slider on the top left of the window to the “On” position
- Adjust the scan settings (simplex/duplex, page size, resolution, color depth etc.) as required
- Refer to the scanner documentation for more details about the scanner settings
- Click the Back button to close the dialog and then click OK to save the settings
What To Look For When Selecting A TWAIN Scanner

How To Get Started Using Import From Folder
Method 1 (included with all Editions and Solutions)
- On the File menu choose Import from folder and select the folder where your image files reside
Method 2 (included with all Editions and Solutions)
- Start ScanToPDF
- Click the File menu and choose Select capture source
- On the right hand side, under the label Import folder, select the folder to import files from
- To set other options click the Advanced button
- Click Save on the bottom right of the window
- Click the Edit menu and then choose Options (or click the Options icon on the toolbar)
- Click the UI icon
- Set the Default capture button option to Import from folder
- Click Save (lower right of screen)
- This will enable clicking the Import from folder button on the ScanToPDF toolbar to import files from the pre-defined folder configured
- To import your files you can just click the Import from folder button on the toolbar or use the File > Import from folder menu option
